And Then There Was One

If you haven't read "The Will of the Sea" entry you should read through it below. As I was reading my May issue of Sail Magazine (www.sailmagazine.com), I came upon an update of Reid Stowe who is attempting to sail at sea for 1,000 days nonstop without ever touching land (Take a look at his website listed below).

His traveling companion, Soanya Ahmad, has thrown in the towel February 22, 2008 after suffering from constant seasickness since late November 2007. Soanya lasted 306 days on this adventure which I must tip my hat to her since she had no prior sailing experience and by the sounds of it really no boating experience before hooking up with a much older Rowe for this adventure.

I personally like the dream and the adventure of Rowe but I though out the question to the readers: Do you think Reid acted as a responsible captain taking such a green horn on an adventure like this or do you think he was blinded by wanting someone with him on what will prove to be a lonely voyage that he was willing to take anyone regardless of how little experience they had?

I do have to hand it to Reid though, no matter how much I would look at the "Great Loop" and think of how much planning, adventure and risk there is in that long voyage, his trip makes the "Great Loop" look like walk in the park.

One of his websites, http://1000days.net/home/ is actually pretty fun to visit just to see his past and current locations via Google maps and Google earth views (links on left side of his site).

Just a short 588 more days until he can experience the feel of solid ground beneath his feet and sand between his toes.
